Waves is a piece for alto voice and piano about ocean waves! Waves focuses on both the natural beauty of waves, along with the darker nature of the endless cycle waves endure. Waves are such a beautiful thing, they continually rise and splash down on the shore. However, after they fulfill that purpose of rising up and splashing down, that’s it. They are effectively dead. The cycle repeats: More and more waves constantly follow suit, rising up and crashing down, rising up and crashing down, rising up and crashing down. It is a constant cycle where waves repeatedly live and die, over and over again. Death will almost certainly forever be out of our control, all that can be done is prolonging the inevitable. Attempts are constantly made to defy death, but those efforts merely delay death, not escape it.
