Description/Program Notes:
Inevitable is a bilingual choir piece aimed to depict what I believe are the thoughts of a hospitalized individual awaiting their inevitable death would sound like in musical form. Inevitable opens up with a very tense atmosphere, where thoughts of being helplessly trapped and stuck inside the hospital are presented. Words of sentences are broken up between different sections of the choir, almost as if the words were loose thoughts ping-ponging around in the patient’s mind. Soon, a latin chant begins to persist. This chant is meant to resemble death approaching, and it will not stop nearing, as time constantly moves forward. The choice of latin is purely just because it feels menacing when paired with a deep chant. Throughout the piece, death is feared, accepted, and eventually even yearned for when the physical and mental pain cannot be beared any more. Death is begged for, and, finally, after suffering for much time, death is granted.
